We had just saddled up a big TB colt and when we turned him loose he went to bucking. We were standing there watching him & Ray said, "If Tom was here, he wouldn't bring that out in that horse."

"Do it for the horse, NOT to him"

I heard Ray say this on his last visit here to Australia, it has stuck with me ever since, every day I ask myself "Am I doing this for the horse?"

It was a tough day for the world in general, let alone the horse world when Ray passed on, as it was when Tom and Bill Dorrance and Ronnie Willis all passed on.

Boy, so many and they all fit together! How about, "if you wanna get right with your horse, get ready ta work on yourself"? Or, "don't blame the horse, I just what he's learned". Or, "the day, the horse and the rider". Wait, I know the one that always got me, and one a the other posts came close, but this was just one word and to me it says a whole world about gettin' with a horse and Ray; "before".

I heard one today that I really liked, "feel of the horse, feel for the horse, and then feel together"

"Most people do not know that "it" exists, but it does exist and most people miss it."

I have caught myself doing things without full attention on the job (but a person can apply this to so many other things in life) and this one rings in my ears. Many times I will step back and take a fresh approach.
I also understood it to say........you can`t be one person at work and another person on your horse.

"How a person does one thing is how they do everything."
